Moxibustion, a thousand-year-old practice

Moxibustion is a therapeutic application of heat is a non-invasive practice. It encourages muscle relaxation, diminishes stiffness, locally increases blood circulation, stimulates the immune system… It is effective against pain.

Moxibustion has a special place in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The burning of moxa is used to increase Qi in the system and tonify the Yin state. There are 3 types of moxibustion: direct, indirect and needle moxa. In direct moxibustion, a small, cone-shaped amount of moxa is placed on top of an acupuncture point and burned. With indirect moxibustion, the moxa is placed over the point and lit, but is extinguished or removed before it burns the skin. Needles moxa combines acupuncture and moxa. Mental caps can be used to help hold the moxa on the needle.
