Course Description

This 3-Day MCT© Fundamentals Course offers further education into the world of therapeutic cupping including Fundamentals and Torso, Upper and Lower Extremities, and Lymphatic Drainage.

An incredible therapy that can be added into any massage and healing modality. Fundamentals of MCT© and Therapeutic Cupping for Lymph Drainage, also known as MCT© Three Day Combination Course includes education in history, theory and application of Modern Cupping Therapy©, along with demonstration of specific techniques. Modern Cupping Therapy© greatly enhances the benefits of massage, decreases strain on the practitioner, and increases revenues through “add-on” services.

This technique has been created for bodywork and is powerfully therapeutic for many conditions. Modern Cupping Therapy© is effective in relieving chronic pain at old injury sites and can address conditions such as; fibromyalgia, diabetes, pre-and post-op edema and inflammation, chronic edema, scar tissue and adhesions, and cellulite. This versatile technique mimics massage movements ranging from deep tissue and myofascial release to the light pumping movements of lymphatic drainage. Used regularly, Modern Cupping Therapy© bodywork is a terrific approach to promoting wellness for our clients and ourselves.

This three-day workshop is fun and informative, with plenty of hands-on activity. Education will include safety and contra-indications, conditions that benefit from the Modern Cupping Therapy© techniques, integration into existing modalities, and applications for specific conditions. Fundamentals and Torso: Includes the history of cupping, the physiological responses, therapeutic benefits and safety and contraindications (esp. torso)

Learn to Treat: Overall back tension and stress relief, neck and shoulder tension, low back pain
Abdominal conditions (including constipation, acid reflux)

DAY 2 – FUNDAMENTALS OF MCT

Upper and Lower extremities: Includes discussing responses to cupping, safety & contraindications (esp. extremities)

Shannon Gilmartin
CMT, CMCE, CMLDT

Shannon Gilmartin is a Licensed and Nationally Certified Massage Therapist, Certified Vacuum Therapy Practitioner and Educator.

Training in aromatherapy, bodymind integration, craniosacral, deep tissue, lymph drainage, medical massage, myofascial release, neuromuscular therapies, orthopedic massage, soft tissue injury rehabilitation, sports massage, Thai massage & Eastern theory, and visceral manipulation, as well as her specialized training in cupping and vacuum therapies have all been incorporated into Shannon’s 18+ years of experience in therapeutic bodywork.

Shannon has owned and operated her own therapeutic massage practice since 2003; first in her native Massachusetts and now in Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA. Her practice associates have all been trained by her in vacuum therapies, and her practice receives referrals from many prestigious healthcare provider across the scope of medicinal practices, including chiropractors, acupuncturists, pain management clinics, dentists and orthopedic and plastic surgeons.

After apprenticing for a few years, she began teaching her own unique variations of therapeutic cupping both domestically and abroad, including invitations to teach in Canada, Guatemala, Ireland, and Italy.

Shannon authored ‘The Guide to Modern Cupping Therapy: A Step-by-Step Source for Vacuum Therapy” under Robert Rose publishing, and she has also been published in Massage Today, Massage Magazine, and online interviewed with ‘Bodywork Buddy.’
